Network/Internet Related Issues

Network or Internet Related issues can be broken down into two categories. Those that are on campus (any of the 7C's) and those that are off campus (the rest of the world).

On-Campus Network/Internet Issues

7.1. Check your WiFi network, DO NOT USE THE CINE NETWORK

  • If you are on the CINE wireless network it will not allow you to see video47 movies.
  • HMC runs the CINE network and will not open up the port necessary to view the video streams.
  • Do not use CINE please use another wireless network.
  • Sometimes the CINE network will bleed over into the Pitzer dorms. Pitzer students, do not use the CINE network.

7.2. When on the Pomona campus check your WiFi network, Avoid the "Pomona Guest Network" if possible.

  • The Pomona Guest Network will be very slow, not good for video.
  • In some cases the Pomona Guest Network will not work for video47 content.
  • Please try another network where a CAS login is required.

7.3. You may have a port that is not open on your computer.

The video stream that Video47 sends video on tcp port 1935. If the tcp port 1935 is not open you will see that the player will start and show a spinning thing then will provide error that will say something like "video not found" or "video stream not available". The error wording can be browser dependant.

The solution to this problem is to open port 1935. Please consult your operating system documentation or do a quick Internet search to see how to open the port.

Like above in (8.1.) you can not get the video stream.

If you have administrative access to the router or access point then open port 1935.

If you do not and are at a place like Starbucks, the ariport, or almost any other public access point you will not have the ability to view the video.

8.3. Use of the Pomona Virtual Public Network (VPN) if you think ports are blocked.

Please vist https://www.pomona.edu/administration/its/help/vpn for more information.

8.4. I am not in the United States

If you are in the Peoples Republic China, the Islamic Republic Iran, the Democratic Peoples Republic Korea or Cuba then you will most likley not have the ability to see videos. Sucessful access has been verrified from out of country, please see (8.2. and 8.3.) above.
